Manchester United could go head-to-head with Arsenal in the race to appoint Paris Saint-Germain advisor Luis Campos next year, according to iNews (page 51 & 56).
The Red Devils recently made the decision to part ways with sporting director Dan Ashworth as co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe was unimpressed with his short-term work.
United are undecided over whether to sign another sporting director, but they could be set to compete with Arsenal for the services of Campos.
Campos has been PSG’s advisor since 2022. He has helped in their transformation with plenty of young talent signed to replace big-name stars.
Both United and Arsenal are looking at the 60-year-old for the sporting director position, considering his current deal with PSG concludes at the end of the campaign.
Campos is willing to prolong his stay, but he could be a perfect foil for manager Ruben Amorim as they are both Portuguese and keen advocates of youth.
The Red Devils took plenty of effort to land Ashworth from Newcastle United earlier this year, but Ratcliffe and INEOS were not pleased with his decision to sign two players.
Ashworth reportedly signed Matthijs de Ligt to show his support for manager Erik ten Hag, while Joshua Zirkzee was recruited after his scouting mission.
Those decisions were part of the reason behind his dismissal. United are now being linked with Campos, and he would be an ideal fit to succeed Ashworth.
He has done tremendous work unearthing talents such as Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva, Fabinho and Victor Osimhen during his time with Monaco and Lille.
United need someone of his experience and calibre with a squad transition anticipated.
Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Jonny Evans are all past their prime and could be offloaded next summer.
Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Antony are other candidates who could leave the club soon.
The Red Devils are likely to focus on younger players with immense potential going forward. Campos would be ideal to co-ordinate with Amorim on future signings.
