United prepared to move for German midfielder amid uncertainty over Bayern future | OneFootball

In a recent article, Mark Ogden analyses how the summer transfer window has gone so far for Premier League clubs.

The ESPN writer, who previously covered Manchester United for the Telegraph, touches on the issues that are still to be addressed.

United have already managed to sign Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, with the Frenchman set to complete his move from Real Madrid next week.

Ogden writes: “United are still pushing Atletico Madrid and England full-back Kieran Trippier and 18-year-old Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. There is also an interest in Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka, with United prepare to move for the Germany midfielder if he fails to agree a new deal before it expires next summer.”

He goes on to explain that before United make further additions to their squad, which Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes will be ready to mount a Premier League title challenge, they will look to raise funds by selling several players.

And we all know that won’t be an easy task.

Many fans have called for the club to buy a new central midfielder. Someone who will graft and operate in a more defensive capacity to break up play and protect the back four.

Some want Declan Rice and others prefer Ruben Neves.

The problem with these Leon Goretzka links is he could easily be playing for us a bigger contract.

I guess there’s no harm in United putting their hat in the ring.

There are players like Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial, Diogo Dalot and Phil Jones all on contracts they probably wouldn’t get elsewhere. On top of that, I’m not seeing many clubs splash the cash this summer.

Andreas Pereira is another – but at least he sounds keen on jumping ship.
