Now planning for a squad without Marcus Rashford for the first time since his 2015 debut, Manchester United are scouring the market for suitable alternatives to bolster the ranks.

That is, of course, on the premise that a deal comes to fruition at the end of the season.

Numerous outlets have relayed that the Red Devils are prepared to part ways with their academy graduate amid concerns over his stagnant form and lifestyle choices. Rashford has accumulated 426 appearances in his senior career up to this stage, recording 138 goals and 68 assists in that time.

He has been a mainstay under each manager in recent years, but there are now questions as to whether he’ll be able to replicate the heights reached in his career-best 2022/2023 campaign, during which he scored 30 goals across all competitions for the first time.

Rashford followed up the term by mustering up only eight goals in 34 appearances in 2023/2024 and is currently on seven since 2024/2025 got underway; three goals have come since Ruben Amorim took the reins.

Nonetheless, one rumoured target has been on United’s list for at least two years now: Evan Ferguson. Fichajes claims the up-and-coming Irishman is of interest to INEOS chiefs as they look to navigate another turning point in the club’s necessary rebuild.

Only last month was it revealed that he could depart Brighton and Hove Albion on loan in the winter due to the ‘outstanding’ striker falling the pecking order. The likes of Danny Welbeck, Joao Pedro and Georginio Rutter are all held in higher esteem to Fabien Hurzeler, limiting the 20-year-old to only two Premier League starts in the opening 15 games.

Ferguson boasts 13 goals and two assists in 57 league appearances, although he will struggle to add to his tally unless his game time increases significantly. A loan move in January may revive his form and, therefore, drive up his transfer value if the Seagulls eventually consider offloading him permanently.
