Enjoy the three Celtic goals from the weekend which were scored by Clarissa Larisey, Jacynta and Lucy Ashworth-Cifford at the Balmoral Stadium yesterday afternoon in Celtic’s 3-0 win over Aberdeen. The result means that the perfect start to the season from Fran Alonso’s side continues with a sixth successive league win and on top of that his Celtic FC Women side have yet to concede in this campaign.

There was early drama at Balmoral when captain for the day Caitlin Hayes suffered a nasty head injury in the opening minutes and had to be replaced as blood was shed, causing upset among the squad. That clearly affected Clarissa Larisey who fired her penalty wide of the post as Celtic’s day got off to a difficult start.

Larisey fails to hit the target with the early penalty

Aberdeen had a few chances in the first half as a clearly rattled Celtic struggled to hit the heights of previous performances but Larisey, still smarting from that spot kick miss, made amends to send Celtic in ahead at the break. Fran Alonso re-set the concentration levels, assured the players that Hayes was fine, and the second half was more like this impressiv Celtic side, although it took under 75 minutes before Jacynta and seconds later Ashworth-Cifford found the back of the net to secure the three points.

Next up for Celtic is a League Cup tie away to Partick Thistle next Sunday and the holders will be going all out to retain the trophy they won back in December at Firhill when it was Caitlin Hayes who headed Celtic FC Women to the first of two trophies won last season.

The SWPL1 title is the big prize Alonso’s Hoops are chasing down this season and yesterday’s away win maintains Celtic’s position in a close contest at the top of the table, with Glasgow City and theRangers also on maximum points. The three sides are going to meet shortly and these games promise to be enthralling. Hopefully the Celtic support will come out in numbers.
