Union St Gilloise head coach Karel Geraerts has announced that Yorbe Vertessen will not be available for the second leg of their Europa League tie with Union Berlin. As reported by Voetbalkrant, Vertessen was not able to recover from an injury he picked up in the sides important 2-1 win over Genk at the weekend. This means that Gustaf Nilsson is likely to start alongside Victor Boniface.
Boniface put in a man of the match display during the first leg as the sides drew 3-3 in the German capital. The striker scored twice, while Vertessen also found the back of the net. Union Berlin needed a late Sven Michel goal to level things up. In a move that has frustrated many of the Union fans, the second leg will take place at Anderlecht’s stadium Lotto Park. Previously, Union had been playing their European games at the OH Leuven stadium because their home stadium in Brussels does not meet the requirements. It is not fully clear why the move has been made to Lotto Park, instead of remaining in Leuven.
