Union St Gilloise have announced that striker Elton Kabangu is set to join Hearts on loan for the rest of the season. The club also revealed that the Edinburgh based side have a purchase option included as part of the loan deal. Kabangu is the second player to leave the club on loan this winter, with winger Casper Terho having joined Bundesliga 2 side Paderborn. That deal also includes a purchase option.
Kabangu joined Union back in the summer of 2023 from Willem II in the Netherlands. Prior to playing for Union the player had spells with FC Eindhoven on loan twice from Gent. During his time with Eindhoven he played 77 games, scoring 18 goals. Prior to joining Union he had scored 16 goals in 58 games. Kabangu struggled in Brussels to force his way into the first team, managing just two goals in 32 appearances. Most of these were from the bench. This season he has scored one goal in 13 games.
Hearts could certainly do with Kabangu rediscovering his form from the 2022/2023 season in the Dutch second tier. During that season the striker from the Democratic Republic of Congo scored 13 goals in 30 games, grabbing five assists as well. The Scottish side are currently 11th in the league, just three points ahead of bottom of the table St Johnstone.
