Italian defender Leonardo Bonucci is set to join Fenerbahce from German side Union Berlin.

At one point, Bonucci seemed close to joining Roma but the move didn’t go through. Sources had told Get Italian Football News that the deal was off as the club’s fans weren’t a fan of the move and Roma decided to abandon the chase.

But sources have now confirmed to Get Italian Football News that Bonucci will join Fenerbahce and the defender will head to Istanbul tomorrow. The expectation is that the move will be announced by the Turkish giants on Thursday, completing a saga which had lasted some days.

The major issue in the deal was that Union weren’t releasing the veteran from his current contract, but Bonucci’s agent Alessandro Lucci made sure that the deal was done, as the right solution was found for all the parties involved.

Bonucci is leaving Union after just half a season, as he had joined the German club following his exit from Juventus.
