As Union Berlin prepare to re-stock their defensive ranks ahead of the new Bundesliga campaign, Berlin’s Köpenick club are apparently considering two players with no prospects at their current German top flight clubs.
True to form, die Eisernen are looking to snatch up discounted players at discount prices. The FCU administrative team seeks to replicate the success story of, among many others, former Wolfsburg left-back Jerome Roussillon
Sport Bild reports that Union are considering Eintracht Frankfurt right-back Aurelio Buta, who also has experience working deep on a right-slant in a back-three. The 28-year-old former Portuguese youth international recently returned from a loan stint with Stade Reims and presently stands on the SGE cut-list.
Kicker has an even wilder rumor to report. According to the German journal, Union are even interested in brining in notorious Hoffenheim flop Stanley Nsoki. The Kraichgauer remain desperate to get the 26-year-old off their squad.
Both players do bring with them plenty of Bundesliga experience. Buta scored four goals in 48 top flight appearances for the RheinMainAdler in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 campaigns. Nsoki has accrued 52 first division appearances for the Sinsheimers over the past three years.
Both Buta (€5m) and Nsoki (€2.5m) could be procured on the cheap. Kicker nevertheless reports, understandably, reports that Union wish to loan rather than spend money on Nsoki. Such a deal would likely leave Hoffenheim responsible for a portion of the 26-year-old’s salary.
There exists plenty of cause to consider such rumors legitimate. Union – following the departures of central defenders Kevin Vogt and Paul Jaeckel this summer – need to bring in more players with experience at the centre-back position.
