Sky Germany reports that Union Berlin are ahead of Wolfsburg in the race for Inter Milan left-back Robin Gosens.
Inter are currently demanding between €15-18m for Gosens, but are also open to the idea of a loan move with a subsequent option to buy. It is reported that Union are ahead of Wolfsburg when it comes to the race for the 29-year-old, while Union can also offer Champions League football.
The fee for Gosens would break Union’s current record transfer fee which is held by Josip Juranovic who joined the club in January from Celtic for €8.55m.
A move for Gosens would be a big upgrade on their options at left-back. Currently, Union have Jérôme Roussillon as their only senior left-back and if Union want to continue competing in the league and DFB-Pokal while also playing in the Champions League, then greater depth is needed.
Union have already made four transfers this summer. The loans of Diogo Leite and Lennart Grill have been made permanent while Mikkal Kaufmann and Alex Kral have both joined the club. Union are also close to completing a loan move for Leeds United attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson.
