While his stats are good and generally speaking the lad is getting praise now that it looks like he is leaving, nevertheless we do not actually know what is going on here.

AEK Athens’ manager recently said that the striker was not a priority, that they already had four. That said, the national press here claimed to have information pertaining to the allegation that they were going to be nevertheless coming back in for Dessers to match the price at long last and finally seal the deal.

It could have been that Athens were playing the whole thing down, trying to force Rangers’ hand a little bit with that initial €4.5 million offer. As things stand now, Rangers rejected that, and that is the outcome with regards to a potential return for £6 million – that would be Rangers’ required number to sell the striker finally and get this done and dusted.

That said, current team mate Hamza Igamane is also under the microscope, with French side Lille heavily interested there. They have confirmed that, which we will discuss in a separate entry.

With this all said, Rangers are currently down to Danilo. That is all we have. Dessers was allegedly injured and didn’t take part in the initial pre-season friendly at Ibrox. But nevertheless, that’s usually the reason when a player is being primed for sale. It’s happened so many times.

So what happens now? Does Dessers go? Honestly we don’t know. It’s all down to Athens and whether they do indeed come back with an offer. We will find out in due course if Dessers will be here for the Champions League qualifiers.

But this saga is getting a bit vague. The sooner it’s resolved, the better.
