With Liam Delap confirmed as Chelsea’s striker signing, Mamadou Sarr just confirmed as having arrived in defence, and Mike Maignan still locked in talks about being our new goalkeeper, left winger is becoming the Chelsea “priority position” with least progress made in it.
By far the favourite to be signed right now is Jamie Gittens, and the last few days have been full of swirling rumours about negotiations back and forth over his price, with Dortmund asking for €70m while we offer €35m.

On the London is Blue podcast however, they singled out another option who would be their “dream” to come in as our new first choice left winger:
“If you were going to go big on a winger, Nico Williams would be the dream,” said presenter Nick Verlaney on this week’s episode. He then explained why:
“I just think he is unbelievable. He was the player of the Euros, for me. He is just unbelievably dynamic.”
You can see their discussion in the clip embedded here:
But there’s a major stumbling block with Williams, and one which Gittens doesn’t face:
“His wages are the problem, because he will require like a £300,000 a week sort of deal. And you’re just not sure if the output is going to be £300,000 a week, especially when you have Cole Palmer – whose output is enormous – making less than that. I think Jamie Gittens is probably the way that the club are going to go.”
Having built up this delicate wage structure over the last few years, it is indeed hard to see Chelsea blowing it all up for one player.
