Unai Emery is keen to get his hands on Thomas Meunier this summer after working with the player at PSG.

The 27-year-old defender, who is also linked with a move to Atletico Madrid (who are also considering Kieran Trippier) moved to PSG in 2016, five days after Unai Emery arrived in Paris and the player is one that the Spaniard reportedly “placed considerable confidence in Meunier as the starting right-back.”

Arsenal are, of course, in need of a temporary right-back but do they really need a permanent one? Hector Bellerin isn’t going to be out forever and it’s hard to see him accepting being shunted to the role of back-up, or why Unai Emery would want to do that.

Then again, you don’t pay €30m for a player you’re going to put on the bench. Especially not when your budget is as limited as Arsenal’s is reported to be.

Meunier, for his part, is reportedly being pushed out of the club by coach Thomas Tuchel who seems to prefer Thilo Kehrer and Colin Dagba ahead of him.

France Football report that the player would be interested in a move to Arsenal but only if they secure Champions League.

He currently earns €3m-a-year which equates to around £ 51k-a-week, a salary Arsenal could certainly afford to better.
