Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has silenced transfer rumours by signing a contract extension that keeps him at the club until 2027, according to The Athletic.

The 52-year-old Spaniard arrived in October 2022, inheriting a team with potential but lacking direction.

Former boss Steven Gerrard had Villa in relegation trouble, but they shot up the table after Emery arrived and finished seventh to qualify for the Europa Conference League.

Since his arrival in October 2022, he has guided Villa to 36 league wins, ten draws and 14 defeats – a stunning 63% win rate.

Villa are pushing for a Champions League spot and through to the Europa Conference League semi-final – a remarkable turnaround.

Emery’s success inevitably attracted attention from bigger clubs, with Bayern Munich a recent name tossed around.

However, the former Arsenal boss has shut down speculation and wants to build a legacy at Villa.

Villa’s ambitious owners, Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, see Emery as their own Sir Alex Ferguson. They believe he can usher in a period of sustained dominance. This new deal is just the first step.

Emery’s pedigree speaks for itself. He replaced Gerrard in 2022, fresh off a Europa League triumph with Villarreal having previously secured the trophy three times with Sevilla.

He also took Arsenal to the final of the Europa League, but they lost to Chelsea.

His Villa side is sitting pretty in fourth place in the Premier League, six points clear of Tottenham Hotspur. Villa are well on their way to securing Champions League football for the first time in decades.

European glory could follow, with a clash against Olympiacos in the Europa Conference League semi-final. With Emery in charge, anything seems possible for this resurgent Villa side.
