We thought Joshua Kimmich had a pretty great game in Bayern Munich’s 5-1 demolition of Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday.
But it seems Bayern president Uli Hoeness managed to find something to complain about.
According to Bild, Hoeness collared Kimmich outside the dressing room after the game and gave the full-back an interesting piece of advice.
“You have to put on adidas shoes sometime! You won’t fall over so often,” the 67-year-old is reported to have said.
Kimmich currently wears the Nike Phantom VNM boots and according to Bavarian Football Works, there’s a pretty even split of Nike and adidas athletes in the Bayern squad …
Kimmich, Niklas Süle, Jérôme Boateng, Rafinha, Thiago Alcântara, Kingsley Coman, Leon Goretzka, Corentin Tolisso, Woo-yeong Jeong, Franck Ribéry, Alphonso Davies, Serge Gnabry, Robert Lewandowski
Manuel Neuer, Sven Ulreich, Christian Früchtl, David Alaba, Mats Hummels, Javi Martinez, Ron-Thorben Hoffmann, James Rodriguez, Renato Sanches, Meritan Shabani, Arjen Robben, Thomas Müller
But the president is no doubt well aware that he cannot force Kimmich to switch brands.
In the run-up to the 2006 World Cup, Nike-sponsored players such as Miroslav Klose and Jens Lehmann reportedly threatened to go on strike when they were told that they would have to wear adidas boots if they wanted to play for the German national team.
