Germany’s 23-man roster contains seven Bayern Munich squad members, including goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, centre-backs Jérôme Boateng, Mats Hummels, Niklas Süle, right-back Joshua Kimmich, midfielder Sebastian Rudy, and forward Thomas Müller.
Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka is also in Germany’s World Cup squad and will join Bayern on a free transfer after the tournament.
Soon after Joachim Löw announced his official World Cup roster on Monday, Bayern president Uli Hoeness was quick to give his club players the responsibility of his nation’s success.
“They will make a decisive contribution to any success,” Hoeness, 66, told Abendzeitung.
Hoeness, who himself tasted World Cup as a player with Germany in 1974, said, “Germany are one of three or four teams who can win the World Cup.”
