Striker Artem Dovbyk is a doubt for Sunday’s Serie A clash between Roma and Inter Milan after suffering an injury with Ukraine.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Ukrainian international striker Dovbyk has become a key player for Roma at the start of this season.
The 27-year-old joined the Giallorossi from Girona over the summer.
Dovbyk had impressed with Girona. He was a key part of the Spanish club’s surprise push for a top four finish in La Liga and Champions League qualification.
That was enough to convince Roma to spend big to bring Dovbyk to Serie A.
The Ukrainian did not immediately show his prolific best form in the first few matches of the season.
Moreover, Roma as a whole have had a chaotic start to the campaign. This saw club legend Daniele De Rossi sacked as coach, with former Torino and Hellas Verona coach Ivan Juric arriving to replace him.
In recent weeks, Dovbyk has started to become a pivotal figure for Roma.
The arrival of Juric seems to have given the club from the Italian capital a certain sense of tactical stability.
And Dovbyk has been an important part of that. The 27-year-old’s physical presence in the final third and opposition penalty area has been a big part of how Roma have built their attacks under Juric.
Dovbyk is also an important player for the Ukrainian national team.
Therefore, it was little surprise to see the Roma striker start against Georgia in Ukraine’s first of two Nations League matches during the break.
However, Dovbyk had to come off with an injury in that match.
According to the Corriere, Dovbyk will not be available for this evening’s match against Czechia.
And Roma are anxiously awaiting updates on the striker’s condition, which will probably come tomorrow.
Dovbyk could be absent for the Giallorossi’s first match back from the international break. Therefore, that will be at home to Inter.
