UK Government planning to postpone the return of fans to stadiums | OneFootball

Not the news any of us wanted to wake up to this morning.

British Member of Parliament Michael Gove has confirmed that pans to allow fans back into stadiums from October 1 have been cancelled.

Last weekend 1000 fans at 10 stadiums across the Football League were permitted entry to watch matches as part of a Government programme to slowly reintroduced supporters back into stadia.

Unfortunately that plan has been dropped after an increase of coronavirus cases in the United Kingdom.

Gove was speaking to BBC Breakfast this morning, where he confirmed the news which will devastate fans and clubs alike.

There will be fears that some clubs will have to fold due to financial pressure if fans aren’t allowed back into games soon.

It is annoying that we can’t return to games yet in France, Germany and Italy they are returning in small numbers.

We should have seen this coming when United were dealt a huge blow in their hope of allowing 12,000 fans into Old Trafford for last week’s league match against Crystal Palace.

According to The Athletic, United were due to meet authorities to discuss the possibility of a trail run for the match. If the rest run was successful they would have aimed to increase the capacity in the following matches.

But the meeting was put on hold after Government scientists deemed the prevalence of the virus was too high to let fans back so soon.
