Alexandra Popp scored twice as Germany beat France 2-1 in the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 semi-final, in front of 27,445 at Stadium MK.

The eight-time European champions will now play England in Sunday’s final at Wembley Stadium, kick-off 5pm.

Popp saw her free kick turned round the post by Pauline Peyraud-Magnin, who then tipped away the resulting corner.

However, Popp made history as the first player to score in five consecutive Women’s Euro games, volleying Germany ahead late in the first half from Svenja Huth’s cross.

France then levelled right on halftime, when Kadidiatou Diani’s 20-yard strike hit the post and went in off keeper Merle Frohms for an own-goal – the first time Germany have conceded at the tournament.

France were denied three times in as many minutes by Frohms, who parried a Selma Bacha shot, saved a Wendie Renard header with her legs and then kept out an effort from Diani.

The deciding goal came with 14 minutes left, Popp heading home from another Huth assist.
