UEFA are set to introduce a new European Cup competition below the Champions League and Europa League from 2021.
According to SportBild, another tournament will begin three years from now, featuring 32 clubs from across the continent.
It is understood the move for reform is to increase the quality and marketing opportunities of the Europa League.
As well, rather than increasing the number of Europa League teams from 48 to 64, a new competition would provide clubs from smaller football nations, a better chance to compete.
UEFA’s next European Cup cycle runs from 2021 to 2024 and it has been reported much of the marketing of the new competition could take place via social media platforms.
Football, we just can’t get enough of it.
