UEFA have reportedly rejected a request from the Spanish Football Federation to have itself suspended by European football’s governing body.
That’s according to a report from Sky which claims that the RFEF had complained to UEFA about interference from the Spanish government in relation to the Luis Rubiales scandal.
Rubiales has been battling against misconduct allegations following his kiss with Jenni Hermoso after the Women’s World Cup final.
The Spanish government has reportedly tried to oust Rubiales from his position as head of RFEF but UEFA statues state that governing body’s must act without third-party interference.
Spanish clubs and the Spanish national team would have been excluded from European competition had UEFA decided to take action.
But that is not the case with UEFA refusing to take action against RFEF.
As the Women’s World Cup is a FIFA competition, it has been agreed that the world football governing body will take action instead.
