UEFA reach settlement with Liverpool fans over 2022 Champions League final | OneFootball

UEFA have reached a settlement with a group of Liverpool supporters who brought a civil claim for suffering injury and distress at the 2022 Champions League final in Paris, per The Guardian.

The European football’s governing body confirmed in a statement on Friday that a ‘full and final settlement’ had been agreed with fans who were represented in the lawsuit by global law company Pogust Goodhead and Liverpool law firm Bingham Long.

The amount of compensation received by the supporters remains confidential.

Liverpool faced Real Madrid in the Champions League final in May 2022 at the Stade de France, which the English giants lost 1-0 following Vinicius Junior’s decisive goal.

Thousands of fans couldn’t enter the Stade de France for the final.

Many people complained of long queues before the game and the police’s heavy-handed response to the build-up of supporters outside the stadium.

They were tear-gassed by police, while some were also attacked and robbed by local people.

UEFA initially blamed the Reds’ supporters for the chaos outside the stadium but later issued an apology after an independent report announced the governing body was responsible for the events.

Following the incident, UEFA began a series of measures to prevent similar incidents in future finals, including implementing the recommendations of the Independent Review.
