Lazio, led by Maurizio Sarri, will fly to Denmark to lock horns with Midtjylland, who have not managed to muster great success in the new campaign.
Despite putting up a lukewarm performance against Hellas Verona at the weekend, Sarri’s men escaped with a 2-0 victory. Although keeping the clean sheet was a sign of a positive outcome, the former Chelsea boss would have liked his team to replicate the performance that led them to a 4-2 victory against Feyenoord on the opening matchday of the Europa League 2022/23 season.
Going into the game against Lazio, Midtjylland are on a three-match winless run. Their performances have not been convincing either. Currently 8th in their domestic league, the Danish club tasted a 1-0 defeat to Sturm Graz in their Europa League curtain-raiser.
Results in the last five matches across all competitions:
Midtjylland: L-W-L-L-D
Lazio: W-D-L-W-W
Albert Capellas will reportedly look to field his team in a compact 4-4-2 formation. Among the absentees, Júnior Brumado and Pablo Ortiz appear to be the leading names.
Lazio will play their usual 4-3-3 formation, with Mario Gila expected to make the starting XI on Thursday evening. Mattia Zaccagni and Manuel Lazzari have not made the trip to Denmark due to some fitness issues. There are also doubts over Toma Bašić’s availability.
Predicted XIs
Lazio are seemingly taking time to cope with Sarri’s vibrant ideas. Nevertheless, if they find the same rhythm that was on display against Feyenoord, it could be a long night for Capellas’ men.
