UEFA has announced that Italian referee Daniele Orsato will be the head official for the upcoming 2020 UEFA Champions League Final between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Bayern Munich. He will be accompanied by Lorenzo Manganelli and Alessandro Giallatini as his assistant referees along with Massimiliano Irrati to head VAR.
Orsato is one of the most experienced referees in the Champions League competition. This season alone, Orsato has reffed five Champions League fixtures, including the first leg of the Round of 16 tie between Real Madrid and Manchester City.
Orsato is not afraid to hand out cautions at will. He has issued a combined 33 yellow cards and one red card over his five Champions League contests this season. Most notably, the Italian ref has awarded four penalty kicks in Champions League play over the campaign.
The Italian ref does not have a lengthy history in officiating PSG games. However, he did officiate the team’s tense-filled Champions League first leg Round of 16 tie against Manchester United last season. PSG won via a 2-0 final score in a game where nine yellow cards were issued by Orsato.
The final will be held at the Estadio da Luz from Libson, Portugal on August 23.
