Udinese Sporting Director Admits Contract Talks With Inter Milan Target Yet To Start | OneFootball

Udinese Sporting Director Pierpaolo Marino has admitted that contract talks have not yet taken off with Inter Milan linked defender Rodrigo Becao to date.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TV12, via FCInterNews, the Friulani defender noted that as of yet, the 27-year-old has not responded to the club’s offer.

Becao’s current contract with Udinese is set to run out at the end of June 2024.

However, reports suggest that the Udine-based club could cash in this summer should he not extend his deal.

Udinese will not be keen to lose Becao on a free transfer next summer. Accordingly, without a new deal being signed, this summer would represent one of their last chances to sell him for a transfer fee.

Inter reportedly lead the way in the chase for former CSKA Moscow defender Becao’s signature.

The Brazilian could be the Nerazzurri’s man to replace Milan Skriniar this summer.

With the Slovakian headed to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer, Inter will need to find a like-for-like replacement.

Like Skriniar, Becao is very capable of playing on the right side of a back three. The 27-year-old has played in this position under the past few Udinese coaches, who have tended to employ a back three system.

Moreover, Becao is a player who’s proven himself at the Serie A level.

Of Becao’s situation, Marino said that “We’ve been very surprised at the fact that he has not yet sat down to talk to us about an extension.”

“We’ve been trying to start a dialogue for several weeks ,” he continued.

“Now, with mutual respect, we’re trying to find a way to restart discussions,” the Udinese director said. He then admitted that “Otherwise we’ll have to consider a transfer that would be difficult for us. This would be because his deal is expiring, and it would be at the right fee for us.”
