Wednesday night’s Champions League second legs saw Chelsea and Villarreal book their places in the last eight.
Here’s what happened …
Scorers: Yilmaz (pen) 38′; Pulisic 45+3′, Azpilicueta 71′
Chelsea put their off-field troubles to one side to book their spot in the last eight as they came from behind to win at Lille.
Lille took the lead from the penalty spot after 38 minutes of the second leg, when Burak Yilmaz converted from 12-yards after a Jorginho handball in the box to make it 2-1 on aggregate.
But it was Chelsea who struck next, when Christian Pulisic scored his second goal of the tie to make it 3-1 in first half stoppage time.
And César Azpilicueta then made it 2-1 on the night and 4-1 on aggregate when he arrived at the back post to finish from Mason Mount’s excellent cross.
Scorers: Moreno (pen) 78′, Torres 85′, Danjuma (pen) 90+2′
Villarreal stunned Juventus with a late salvo to condemn the Italian side to another last 16 exit.
Dušan Vlahović went close to opening the scoring for Juventus when he rattled the woodwork after 21 minutes.
Vlahović was then denied again in the 35th minute, when his point-blank header was well smothered by Villarreal goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli.
Villarreal were then awarded a penalty in the 76th minute, when Daniele Rugani brought down Arnaut Danjuma in the box.
Gerard Moreno stepped up, and his penalty just crept into the bottom corner beyond Wojciech Szczęsny gloves.
And the Europa League holders then went 2-0 up when a ball into the box was bundled in from close range by Pau Torres with just five minutes to go.
Juve’s capitulation went from bad to worse in stoppage time, when Mathijs de Ligt handled a goalbound shot to give Villarreal a second penalty.
Danjuma stepped up and sent Szczęsny the wrong way for 3-0.
