Ajax started in a 4-3-3 formation with Sebastian Haller playing through the middle in their front three.

Ajax made four changes in the second half. Dortmund started in the same formation as Ajax with Erling Haaland leading the attack for them.

Dortmund made their five changes in the second half but the game was already out of their reach.

Ajax completely dominated the game and did not give Dortmund a chance to get back in the game. Ajax had 20 attempts on goal and also dominated possession of the ball.

Ajax attempted 20 shots on the opposition goal and had 45% of their shots on target. Sebastian Haller was on the scoresheet yet again for Ajax and had the highest xG than any other player on the pitch.

Ajax attempted 12 shots from inside the penalty area and maintained the pressure on the Dortmund defenders and goalkeeper throughout. They had nine shots on target and had an xG of 0.12 per shot. Dortmund did attempt quite a few shots on goal but failed to capitalise on these opportunities. They had four shots on target but had a low xG per shot.

Haller attempted two shots on goal and had both shots on target which is why he had a very high xG. The xG timeline indicates Ajax had a higher xG from the start and kept attacking the opposition goal. Dortmund only had one shot on goal in the entire first half.

Daley Blind attempted the most number of passes for Ajax and also received the ball most from his teammates.

Axel Witsel did manage to keep possession of the ball and tried to control the tempo of the game as he attempted 56 passes and also received the ball 39 times.

Ajax made most passes on the left flank and attempted most of their crosses from the same flank. Daley Blind and Dusan Tadic attempted two smart passes each and also attempted a total of nine crosses together.

Dortmund made most of their passes in the central part of the field and on the right flank. They attempted only two smart passes throughout the game but attempted 15 crosses into the penalty area.

Daley Blind attempted the most smart passes and crosses for his team which is why he had the highest xT. He attempted 63 passes with an accuracy rate of 82.54%.

Both wide forwards for Ajax, Dusan Tadic and Antony had a high xT from the dribbles and passes they attempted but failed to make the right pass at times.

Dortmund had more xT creation zones on the right flank. Mats Hummels had the highest xT from the passes he attempted into the final third.

Julian Brandt had a high xT from his passes but failed to make the right pass when he got into threatening positions. Haaland had the highest xT from the dribbles he attempted.

Ajax players lost most of the defensive duels they attempted. Ryan Gravenberch failed to win a single defensive duel.

Sebastian Haller won both the aerial duels he attempted.

Ajax pressed the Dortmund players higher up the pitch and won most of the defensive duels they attempted.

Dortmund players did manage to win their defensive duels but failed to recover possession of the ball.

Haaland won four of the five aerial duels that he attempted but failed to make any significant threat with these headers.

Dortmund attempted 34 loose ball duels and won 44.1% of these duels.

Ajax top Group C on nine points with Dortmund dropping points for the first time in the Champions League this season.
