Barcelona saw off a resilient Napoli side to ensure they reached the last-eight for an 11th consecutive season.

Napoli had started the better, hitting the post through Dries Mertens in the first 90 seconds before Clement Lenglet headed Barça into the lead.

Then a moment of magic from Lionel Messi appeared to put the game beyond doubt. He found space when they appeared to be none to slot the ball past David Ospina into the bottom corner while falling over.

Luis Suárez looked to have made it comfortable for the hosts from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time after Kalidou Koulibaly had poleaxed Messi in the box.

However, Napoli scored a penalty of their own minutes later through Lorenzo Insigne to turn the game back in the balance.

Hirving Lozano headed over completely unmarked in the second-half as Gennaro Gatusso’s side searched for an equaliser but Barcelona held on to progress.

Bayern Munich made a comfortable return to competitive action after beating Chelsea to book their place in the quarter-finals.

Robert Lewandowski ended any hopes of a Chelsea comeback inside the first ten minutes when he scored a penalty after being brought down by Willy Caballero.

Lewandowski then turned provider for Bayern’s second, taking advantage of Bayern winning the ball high-up to lay in Ivan Perišić who slid the ball into the bottom corner.

Tammy Abraham ensured Chelsea at least had a goal on the scoreboard when he tapped home after Manuel Neuer parried Emerson’s cross into his path.

Corentin Tolisso added some gloss onto the scoreline when he fired home from inside the six-yard box, while there was still time for Lewandowski to head home his second of the game and 13th of the competition overall.
