The ‘you’re not singing anymore’ award

Barcelona struggled to a 3-3 draw with Inter at Camp Nou on Wednesday, despite having taken a 1-0 lead after 40 minutes. When the Nerazzurri bounced back with a 50th minute goal from NicolĂČ Barella, it seems like the mood in the stadium quickly changed.

The ‘blink and you’ll miss it award’

Mo Salah has been unusually quiet this season, scoring just two goals apiece in the Champions League and Premier League since the season began. That all changed in just over six breathtaking minutes at Ibrox on Wednesday night, as he suddenly found his shooting boots, propelling Liverpool to a 7-1 win.

The staying power award

After losing to Monza in Serie A, Juventus suffered their latest humiliation at the hands of Maccabi Haifa on Tuesday night. Yet rather than sack under fire boss Max Allegri, the club decided to confirm their faith him after the match.

The best buds award

Sometimes two players have a telepathic understanding of each other and that’s the relationship enjoyed by Harry Kane and Son Heung-min at Tottenham. Antonio Conte’s men managed a narrow 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, with both forwards on the scoresheet once again.

The sheer perseverance award

Club Brugge have been one of the big stories of this Champions League group game and their 0-0 draw with AtlĂ©tico Madrid saw them qualify for the knockout stages after nine failed attempts. Former Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet was instrumental in keeping Atleti out, having kept a clean sheet in each and every one of his side’s four qualifying matches.

The ‘no Haaland, no party’ award

Pep Guardiola decided to give Erling Haaland a rest away at Copenhagen on Tuesday night, and the end result was no goals scored. It won’t worry the boss too much though, as Manchester City are still at the top of Group G, three points clear of Borussia Dortmund in second.

The tearing it up award

Jude Bellingham has been the subject of intense transfer speculation recently and it’s not difficult to understand why. The 19-year-old is scoring for fun in the Champions League for Dortmund and already wearing the captain’s armband too.

The goals, goals, goals award

With a 4-2 win over Ajax, Napoli scored ten (yes, ten) goals versus the Dutch side in the space of eight days. Luciano Spalletti’s men have already qualified for the knockout stages, having scored a total of 17 goals in just four Champions League outings.

The trying too hard award

Milan defender Fikayo Tomori spoke about having a point to prove against his former side Chelsea, and at the same time wanted to impress England manager Gareth Southgate. Yet Tuesday night further compounded a poor performance from the week before for the Englishman as he failed to show the kind of form that has seen him impress for Milan, and got himself sent off in the process.
