The 1,027 spectators at Stadion Rote Erde watched an attacking 3. Liga match played out in glorious sunshine. Bradley Fink gave BVB the lead after just a quarter of an hour, but Wehen restored parity on the stroke of half-time. The visitors were clinical in the second period and scored two goals from their three chances. Borussia scored another themselves through Justin Njinmah but could not prevent the defeat.
The scenario: SVWW coach Markus Kauczinski, who has been in the dugout since November 2021, went into the game satisfied with his team's recent results. A 3-1 defeat to Magdeburg was followed by two victories against Saarbrücken (1-0) and Viktoria Berlin (2-0). Prior to the match, the men from Hesse occupied ninth place in the table (40 points), two places behind BVB (41 points).
The personnel: BVB coach Enrico Maassen made four changes to his starting XI. Marco Hober, Haymenn Bah-Traore, Bradley Fink and Ole Pohlmann came in for Franz Pfanne, Niklas Dams, Soumaila Coulibaly and Immanuel Pherai.
The match & analysis: The first opportunity to score fell to the visitors, who hit the crossbar from a header following a free-kick in the eighth minute. But the Black & Yellows were the livelier team, had more possession and attacked with courage again and again. In the 13th minute, Marco Hober played a perfectly timed ball to Richmond Tachie who fed Bradley Fink with a first-time pass. The 18-year-old centre-forward tapped the ball over the line to register his first goal on his fifth third-tier appearance.
Midway through the opening half, BVB pushed to extend their advantage. First Richmond Tachie and Justin Njinmah went close to doubling their lead in the 20th and 21st minutes respectively. The visitors from Hesse only posed a threat from set-pieces in the opening period, with coach Markus Kauczinski's charges struggling to produce much from open play. BVB, on the other hand, had a great chance to make it 2-0 five minutes before half-time, but Richmond Tachie's shot was blocked three times by a Wiesbaden defender. The visitors then managed to level the scores at 1-1 with the last attack of the first half, with Maximilian Thiel beating Luca Unbehaun from close range following a counter-attack, and the half-time whistle sounded with the sides on level terms.
The visitors looked better after the interval and had more of the game in the opening minutes. And their efforts was rewarded in the 50th minute when Ahmet Gürleyen headed home a corner to make it 2-1 to Wiesbaden. BVB briefly rallied and Justin Njinmah had a dangerous chance in the 55th minute, although his attempt was turned behind for a corner by SVWW goalkeeper Stritzel. BVB went on the attack and put the teams back on level terms on 63 minutes. Justin Njinmah was in the right place on the edge of the six-yard box to convert a free-kick from a deep position.
But Wiesbaden quickly responded to the Dortmund leveller with Lucas Brumme taking advantage of a lapse in concentration by the Dortmund back line to make it 3-2 just three minutes later. It became an open encounter and, only a few moments after going behind, Richmond Tachie came close to beating SVWW goalkeeper Stritzel in a one-on-one. The Wiesbaden goal was now coming under threat on an almost minute-by-minute basis but BVB could not manage to equalise as the visitors held on to their narrow lead.
