Matchday 34 in the 3. Liga will see the Borussia Dortmund U23s travel to SV Meppen. Kick-off at the Hänsch-Arena is at 14:00 CET on Saturday (16/04).

There are still five games to go and BVB have ambitious goals for the final stretch: "We want to play our intense style of football until the end and pick up as many points as possible in the process," said head coach Enrico Maassen. The team has now moved on from their disappointment at losing their home debut at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK to Viktoria Berlin last weekend. Their full focus is now on the upcoming game in Meppen.

Their next opponents occupy 12th place in the table. Having spent the winter break in the promotion play-off place, level on points with second-placed Eintracht Braunschweig, the Blue & Whites from the Emsland have fallen away considerably in the second half of the season. Meppen are currently nine games without a win in the league. Their last and only victory in 2022 came away to SC Verl in January.

But the Black & Yellows must be wary, especially given the reverse fixture. Our boys lost a hard-fought encounter at the Rote Erde by a 1-0 scoreline. "A hugely physical team awaits us. Classic third-tier virtues will be required. We will need to show them from the beginning," said Maassen.

The coach will not have a full complement of players to choose from for the revenge mission against SVM. Long-term injury absentee Marco Pasalic is joined on the sidelines by 21-year-old Moritz Broschinski, whose season is unfortunately over due to a hip flexor injury. In addition, Antonios Papadopoulos has been called upon by the senior squad this weekend.

Even without the aforementioned players, BVB will still field a strong team and do everything in their power to leave Emsland with points in the bag. A victory would prematurely ensure BVB's place in the division next term. It would also set a club-record in terms of points amassed in the third tier. So there are certainly plenty of incentives.
