Leeds United U21s were narrowly beaten at home in the Premier League 2 after Alex Roberts got the first and Elliot Myles scored a second late in the game, to secure the three points for the away side.

The Whites got off to a fast start when a bouncing ball inside the box fell kindly to Luca Thomas but the striker hit his effort narrowly over the crossbar.

After the quick opening from Scott Gardner’s side, the visitors settled into the game and took the lead in the 21st minute. Marcel Mcintosh drilled a low cross into the box that evaded everyone and found Roberts at the back post, who tapped it in from close range.

After going a goal behind, the Whites pushed for an equaliser and almost found it moments before the break. The chance came after the hosts played several smart passes inside the box before finally finding Sam Chambers, but he dragged his effort narrowly wide of the post.

This was to be the last of the action in the first half, with the whistle sounding, meaning Norwich took a slender lead into the break.

HALF TIME: Leeds United U21s 0-1 Norwich City U21s

The Whites made the only change at the interval by bringing on Dan Toulson, meaning they had slightly adjusted tactically for the second half.

It was the home side that had the first real chance of the second half, when Max McFadden tricked his way past the Norwich defenders before curling a left-footed strike towards the bottom corner but his effort went narrowly wide.

Despite their promising start to the final period in York, Reuben Lopata-White was shown a second yellow card for a challenge just outside the penalty area, meaning Leeds were reduced to 10 players.

Gardner’s side still dominated possession despite being a player down, and Thomas found himself with space on the edge of the 18-yard box to unleash a strike but he fired just over.

The Canaries almost doubled their advantage late in the game when Myles clipped a cross towards Errol Mundle-Smith, but the striker couldn’t direct his header on target.

Moments later and Myles did add a second, when he was able to find space at the back post to tap in his effort from close range to secure the win for the Canaries.
