Borussia's U19s will travel away to SC Freiburg in the DFB-Pokal semi-final on 12 or 13 March. The other tie will see FC Bayern Munich play host to VfB Stuttgart, the last winner of the competition back in 2019. The draw was conducted by DFB youth coordinator Meikel Schöneweitz at association headquarters in Frankfurt.

"You have to beat every opponent if you want to win the cup," was the relatively relaxed reaction to the draw from BVB coach Mike Tullberg, who added: "Freiburg are an unbelievably strong cup team. But we do not need to be afraid of any opponent."

SC Freiburg, who are currently 14th in the Bundesliga Süd/Südwest table, are the DFB-Pokal record-holders at junior level with six titles and beat a BVB side that included Mario Götze 6-5 in a penalty shootout in the one and only final the Black & Yellows have previously reached in 2009. Freiburg's cup run this season has seen them eliminate Energie Cottbus (3-2 AET), SV Wehen Wiesbaden (5-1) and RB Leipzig (3-1 on penalties).

Mike Tullberg's charges have reached the last four by beating Viktoria Berlin (4-1), Carl Zeiss Jena (3-1) and Hannover 96 (3-1 AET). (wiwi)
