Leeds United Under 18s recorded an impressive 5-2 victory over Liverpool at Thorp Arch, taking them into second place in the table.

The visitors started well and had plenty of chances in the opening 15 minutes. The first of which fell to Oakley Cannonier who was played through on goal by Harvey Blair, but when the forward who was one-on-one with Harry Christy, he put his shot wide.

Blair then got to the byline and fired a ball across the box and the ball fell to Cannonier, but he miscued his shot and following a goal line scramble Leeds cleared.

Minutes later, the dangerous Blair cut inside from the left wing and fired a powerful shot towards goal but Christy saved well.

Liverpool’s best chance fell to Melkamu Frauendorf who looked down on goal but Christy once again kept the scores level with a terrific save.

Scott Gardner’s side then opened the scoring on the 22nd minute as Cian Coleman broke from midfield and kept running, he then fired goal-wards and his strike flew into the bottom left hand corner, from 25 yards out.

Then midway through the first half, Liverpool full back Isaac Mabaya flew into a challenge with Morten Spencer. He was very high and late into the challenge, the referee had no choice but to show him a red card and the visitors went down to 10 men.

Despite going down a man Liverpool still attacked and Bobby Clark threaded the ball through to Cannonier who finally scored one of his chances, and gave Liverpool a lifeline before the break.

Things nearly got better for Marc Bridge-Wilkinson's side after a loose pass from James Debayo set Blair clean through on goal but he got his shot horribly wrong and Gardner's side went into half time in the lead.

HALF TIME: Leeds United 2-1 Liverpool

The Whites flew out the traps in the second half as Spencer picked the ball up outside the area and slotted a fantastic ball through to Ben Andreucci, who finished calmly into the back of the net to reestablish a two goal lead again for the hosts.

With 67 minutes on the clock, Keenan Carole picked up the ball in his own half before playing Luca Thomas through on goal, who smashed the ball home and gave Leeds an unassailable lead with their fourth of the match.

Leeds almost made it five as substitute Scott Godden whipped a great ball into the goalscorer Thomas, but his header was saved from close range.

The Reds continued pushing for a goal and Christy had to rush from his line with five minutes to go to thwart Cannonier from pulling one back.

Terrence McLaughlin-Miles then did get a consolation goal for Liverpool following a cross from Frauendorf, but then with virtually the last kick of the game, Andreucci got his second goal of the afternoon to complete the scoring and seal the three points for Leeds.
