Scott Gardner’s Under-18s were defeated 2-0 by opponents Stoke City at Thorp Arch, with both of the visitors goals coming in the second half.

Following a quiet first 20 minutes, the first chance of the game fell to the visitors, as Ted Cargill whipped in a dangerous free kick but Harry Christy in the Leeds goal claimed comfortably.

The Whites then applied some pressure as Ben Andreucci chipped a ball to the back post but Jay Buchan’s header was saved well by the Stoke goalkeeper and it went behind for a corner.

Minutes later, Andreucci had another chance as substitute Joe Littlewood crossed for the striker but his tame header was claimed easily.

Just before the interval Stoke’s danger man Shilo Waldo saw his curling effort from the edge of the box just miss the target and the teams then went in level.

HALF TIME: Leeds United 0-0 Stoke City

The hosts started the brighter in the second half with the two substitutes combining as Cuba Cline whipped in a terrific ball into the box but Scott Godden effort was cleared off the line.

Godden then almost turned provider as he fired a great ball to the near post but Andreucci’s close range effort was blocked and deflected behind for a corner.

With 20 minutes to go, against the run of the play, Waldo struck a free kick low underneath the wall and it nestled into the bottom left hand corner to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Gardner’s side almost hit back immediately as Charlie Allen played a delightful ball through ball to Lui Bradbury but his shot was saved down low.

With Leeds pressing and throwing players forward, Stoke counter attacked and Josh Waite scored for the Potters, slotting the ball in the bottom left corner.

Richard Walker’s team saw out the last few minutes and left Thorp Arch with all three points.
