Journalist David Maddock has given his opinion on the current state of Jurgen Klopp’s team.

Maddock believes that if Liverpool do not sign a centre-back by the end of January, they will not be able to claim the 2020-21 Premier League title.

Liverpool currently sit in fourth-place on the Premier League table.

We agree with Maddock that Liverpool should be looking to sign a centre-back.

Despite the fact that Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip have been injured for the majority of the 2020-21 season, Liverpool have performed reasonably well defensively.

Liverpool have only conceded 21 goals in 18 Premier League matches. That is not the worst record when one considers that midfielders such as Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have played in the heart of Liverpool’s defence this season.

But, by purchasing a centre-back, it allows the likes of Henderson and Fabinho to play in their natural positions.

Liverpool have won the Champions League and the Premier League with Henderson and Fabinho playing in midfield.

That highlights that the Reds benefit from having those two aforementioned names in the middle of the park.

The league table highlights that Liverpool aren’t flying, so we hope the club signs a centre-back.
