Two possible Isak replacements emerge for Newcastle United

The Alexander Isak saga rumbles on at a very slow pace as Newcastle United struggle to find a solution in the summer transfer window.

The striker is determined to leave St James’ Park this summer amid interest from Liverpool, who are waiting patiently to see how the situation plays out after their £110 million bid was rejected earlier this month.

The Reds know that a deal has no possibility of happening until Newcastle find Isak’s replacement first. In fact, the Magpies are said to be looking for two new forwards to arrive before they even think about selling.

Their search has thus far been fruitless, missing out on several targets to rival Premier League clubs.

Newcastle have been working on a deal to sign Brentford striker Yoane Wissa, who like Isak has refused to play for his club until his demand for a move has been met. Frustratingly for them, the Bees have apparently upped their asking price from £50m to £60m.

With less than two weeks remaining in the transfer window, the Tyneside outfit need to consider alternative options.

One such possibility is Jorgen Strand Larsen. The Athletic report that Newcastle “retain a firm interest” in the Wolves forward, who scored an impressive 14 goals and made four assists in his debut Premier League campaign last season.

The Norwegian is “among a small group of names under consideration”, with talks “taking place via intermediaries”. Strand Larsen is said to be “keen” on a potential move, although he is “not agitating” for an exit.

Another name that Newcastle could look at happens to be a compatriot of Strand Larsen. They were linked with a move for Alexander Sorloth back in May, but the story went cold.

They may think about reigniting their interest, however, as Sorloth is supposedly on the market. Reports in Spain claim that he is unhappy at Atletico Madrid after he was only introduced as a late substitute in their LaLiga opener against Espanyol.

The 29-year-old, who flopped at Crystal Palace years ago, scored 24 goals in all competitions following his transfer from Villarreal last summer, but has fallen down Diego Simeone’s pecking order after they signed Giacomo Raspadori.

The Spanish club want around £30m for the forward, but require a replacement before they sell. There is no suggestion as of yet that Newcastle want to pursue Sorloth, but it would make complete sense if they do.
