Two new signings given green light to feature for Chelsea in $125m tournament

Earlier today we wrote about Ben Jacobs and his reports on Chelsea’s plans for this summer’s Club World Cup.
Since then, we’ve had confirmation that the English FA have accepted FIFA’s proposals for an exceptional transfer window between the 1st and 10th of June, following the end of the season but before the start of the big tournament in the USA.
That means a few things – firstly, as reported when the deal to sign him was announced earlier this month, midfielder Dario Essugo will be able to play his first competitive minutes for the Blues after completing his move from Sporting CP.
Jacobs has also now confirmed a second new addition will be in the group – Kendry Paez joins this summer for Independiente, and will be able to be registered for his new team and feature in the tournament. The whispers recently have been that he is seen more as an Enzo Fernandez backup than as a winger. This could be the first test of that theory.
On top of them, we will have returning loanees like Andrey Santos, Joao Felix and Renato Veiga ready. The squad size for this tournament is expected to be 35 players, allowing a lot of mixing and matching and rotation.

Meanwhile, as has already been established, fellow new arrival Estevao Willian will play with current club Palmeiras. That part of the deal was agreed long with the Brazilian club long before this exceptional transfer window was even on the table – Chelsea might have taken a different approach had they known the winger would potentially be available to them.
