An angry half-time rant from two Man Utd stars was reportedly overheard by Man City staff during the Red Devils’ 6-3 Manchester derby defeat.

Erik ten Hag’s side were swept away in the first half by an attacking masterclass from the Citizens with Pep Guardiola’s men going into the break 4-0 up.

City took their foot off the pedal a bit second half as the game ended 6-3 but the match highlighted the extreme gulf in quality between the two sides.

Ten Hag’s tenure at Man Utd got off to the worst possible start in the Premier League with a 2-1 loss to Brighton on the opening weekend before an embarrassing 4-0 defeat at Brentford.

However, the Dutchman turned it around with four wins from his next four matches in charge before their heavy defeat at arch-rivals City on Sunday.

And The Sun reports that Lisandro Martinez and Bruno Fernandes delivered a ‘furious half-time rant’ that ‘was so loud it could be heard down the corridor’.

It is understood that the Man Utd duo ‘raged at their team-mates that they lacked belief’ with their message ‘heard by City staff outside the visitors’ changing room’.

It’s unsurprising that there were a number of unhappy players and staff at half-time with Man Utd looking completely bereft of confidence.

Reacting to the defeat, Fernandes said after the match: “The attitude and the belief from the beginning was not the best and that caused us many problems and made us concede early goals.

“After, we have to run back the result and the second half was much better.

“We keep control more, we control the game more. Whenever we have the ball we are more brave.

“We are really disappointed but now it’s time to focus on the next game and understand that we have to get back to the performances that we did before — in the belief and everything, in the togetherness principle — and understand that this  cannot get us down.”

The Sun adds that Ten Hag ‘agreed with the half-time rant and sent his players back out with the order to fight for each other’ with the Man Utd boss holding a clear-the-air team meeting in the aftermath of their defeat to Brentford.

And Ten Hag will again invite all his players to speak their mind after their loss to City as he and his staff figure out what went wrong at the Etihad Stadium.
