It seems likely that FC Barcelona will need to think of alternative options to replace Inigo Martinez. With the veteran defender now expected to leave the club, there are four centre-backs left. However, not a single one of them is left-footed, and that is a coveted trait for modern left-sided defenders to possess.
Fortunately, the club has a spectacular youth setup and a reserve team that often provides answers. Currently, as highlighted by SPORT, there are two Barça Atletic players who could end up replacing Inigo Martinez and are both left-footed.

One of the two options is Alvaro Cortes, and he is a 20-year-old defender known for his physical profile and ability to dominate spaces and win duels. Hansi Flick has also reportedly kept a close eye on him.
The other option is likely to be a more familiar one for Barça fans. Andres Cuenca, aged 18 now, has already even made his first team debut in the UEFA Champions League last season. His best qualities, however, tend to lean more towards his technical ability on the ball and his versatility.
Both options provide unique solutions, but they could both prove to be valuable assets this season. After all, with Inigo Martinez gone, it is possible that any injuries in defense could push Flick to call up either of the two defenders or potentially even both from the subsidiary.
