Piotr Zielinski and Mehdi Taremi are in pole position to start for Inter Milan in tonight’s UEFA Champions League encounter against Red Star Belgrade.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported by FCInterNews, Simone Inzaghi could massively overhaul his starting line-up for Tuesday’s must-win home game against the Serbian champions.
With high-profile fixtures coming thick and fast, Inzaghi recognizes the importance of managing his players’ game time.
Inter had to go above and beyond to hold Manchester City to a scoreless draw in their opening Champions League outing.
Given the new format, every point could be crucial. Therefore, anything other than a victory against Red Star would be unacceptable.
However, Inzaghi must also pay attention to potential fatigue issues.
Standout performer Lautaro Martinez finally got off the mark in Serie A last weekend with a game-winning brace against Udinese.
But the Argentine has barely had a chance to rest this season.
With that in mind, Taremi could swoop in against the perennial Serbian SuperLig champions.
Taremi has yet to score for Inter this season.
But despite unenviable scoring exploits across his first six appearances for the club, he has proved an excellent team player.
Like the Iranian superstar, Zielinski has shown glimpses of his unquestionable class, especially in that game against City.
With Nicolo Barella out of contention for the matchday squad, the former Napoli midfielder is the front-runner to take his place in the starting XI.
Zielinski should partner with Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the engine room.
As for Taremi, he may need to lace up his scoring boots tonight.
Inzaghi will likely leave Marcus Thuram and Martinez on the bench in favor of Marko Arnautovic and the Iranian talisman.
Even this new-look frontline should have a field day against sub-par opposition.
