Nuno Espirito Santo positive despite shocking loss to SBV Vitesse in the UEFA Europa Conference League

According to Daily Mail, Nuno Espirito Santo believes that Tottenham Hotspur can solve the group situation despite scathing loss to SBV Vitesse in the UEFA Europa Conference League

The Lilywhites put on a disappointing performance against Vitesse in the Conference League. The North London club succumbed to a 1-0 loss courtesy of a great strike from Maximilian Wittek in the 78th minute. Bryan Gil hit the crossbar early in the second half but Spurs struggled to get going on the day.

The Portuguese manager fielded an entirely different squad from the one that defeated Newcastle United on Saturday and the risk seems to have backfired based on the result. The game would have been a great opportunity for some of the fringe players to make their mark but none of them could capitalise on this opportunity.

Nuno remains optimistic about Tottenham Hotspur’s chances to progress in the UEFA Conference League.

Nuno defended his squad against the Dutch club and stated that they could make it through to the knockout stages of the competition:

‘The Conference League is always a chance to have minutes on the players, players who work hard and deserve. This is what it’s all about so let’s progress. In terms of the group, I think we have two games at home against Vitesse and Rennes and then we have to play Mura. We can solve the situation of the group.’

The Lilywhites haven’t won a major trophy for 13 years and the Conference League could be seen as their best bet to add some silverware to their cabinet. Spurs still have a chance to make it to the knockout stages of the tournament but will have to put in better displays if that is to happen.

Spurs will play West Ham in the next Premier League fixture. Nuno will be expected to field a much stronger side against the London club. This will hopefully be enough to propel the Tottenham outfit into their third consecutive victory in the PL.
