Real Madrid and Juventus have both reportedly been put off by Liverpool target Houssem Aouar’s €50m price tag ahead of the summer window.

According to Calcio Mercato, Real and Juventus are both interested in signing Aouar, but they believe Lyon’s demand of €50m is too excessive for him.

The report claims Zinedine Zidane has asked the Real Madrid board to sign Aouar several times, whilst Liverpool have also been linked with the Frenchman.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Lyon are well within their right to demand a fee in the region of €50m (£43m) for Aouar. He still has just over two years left to run on his contract with the French side, which means that they are not in a position where they need to worry about him running down his deal or leaving for a cut-price fee in the immediate future. Lyon can afford to take their time with Aouar and demand a sizeable fee for the Frenchman this summer, before potentially dealing with his contract next year when he will only have 12 months left to go on it.

Transfermarkt values Aouar, 22, at £45m and list his highest value at £49m. Therefore, Lyon are demanding less money for Aouar than his supposed market value and any clubs interested in signing him could be getting a bargain by snapping him up for £43m. The financial impact Covid-19 has had on football has to be taken into consideration, though, and this could be why clubs are reticent to sanction big-money deals this summer – with Aouar potentially set to miss out on a transfer because of this.
