Twists & turns as Goldson ‘offers’ Rangers a condition for staying

Connor Goldson looks inevitable to leave after GVB admitted he was relaxed about players like him who are on the last throes of their contracts.

But the recent claims that the former Brighton man would be persuaded to stay if Rangers secure Champions League seem a little far-fetched.

The tabloids have been reporting the story that he’s ready to leave in the summer, but will change his mind if Rangers win 56 ergo grab that group stage in the Champions League, which in turn will lead to a bigger budget and the ability for him to get the wage he believes he’s entitled to.

Is there any truth in this?

We don’t actually care any more.

Goldson and his contract saga has become a borderline disgrace, with his being asked repeatedly about the situation and always avoiding sharing the truth with reporters.

True, it’s reporters, and you hardly want to spill your innermost to them, but fans surely have a right to know, as does the manager, and Goldson has been cryptic from as long ago as October 2020 when the negotiations started.

It’s just ended up slightly sour – he’d be leaving not as the winner of 55 and the brilliant defender he was last season, but someone who played mind games with fans and press, left everyone guessing but showed a lack of commitment in not signing, then reportedly ended up in negotiations with Championship clubs.

We have no issue with him leaving to go home to be near family, it’s how he appears to be going about it.

Which, frankly, sounds like someone else we could mention…
