Ronaldo Nazário checked in at Real Madrid 20 years ago today. On 31 August 2002 and following some intense negotiations, our club secured the services of one of the greatest forwards in the history of the game with just minutes to go before the transfer window slammed shut. The Brazilian, who was unveiled two days later alongside club president Florentino Pérez and Alfredo Di Stéfano, began his legacy at Real Madrid.

Ronaldo hit 104 goals in his 177 outings in a madridista shirt. Right from the outset, he demonstrated his amazing goalscoring ability. Indeed, it took him just seconds to open his account for the club as he netted in the meeting with Alavés at the Bernabéu.

The madridista fans enjoyed his talents for five seasons and he helped the club to one Intercontinental Cup, in which he was named Man of the Match, two LaLiga titles and a Spanish Super Cup. He also landed the Pichichi Trophy in the 2003/04 campaign and paraded the second Ballon d'Or of his career in front of the Santiago Bernabéu faithful.
