With just a few days left in the January transfer window, the Milan management are still searching for the right deal to reinforce the defensive department.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) writes that Sven Botman will be the big target for the summer window but before the deadline Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara want to push to sign Malick Thiaw from Schalke. The directors are trying to understand if Schalke 04 would open to a sale under certain conditions, because Thiaw is a very popular profile among the Milan chiefs.

The budget available is certainly not the most important but rather the ability to satisfy the 2. Bundesliga club who are asking for €8-10m for the German U21 international, with Milan’s offer currently €5m plus bonuses.

Napoli and other European clubs also want Thiaw, and at this point it cannot be ruled out that he may remain at Schalke 04 and then evaluate his future in the summer, with Milan turning to Maxime Estève of Montpellier.
