AC Milan are hoping to have an Under 23 team competing in Serie C next season but it is not yet clear which of the three groups they will be competing in.

As reported by Tuttosport (via Calcio e Finanza), confusion is reigning around when and where Milan will be able to enter their U23 team.

Serie C is split into three groups, A, B and C. These are created with geography in mind so that teams do not have to travel all around the country during the whole season.

Milan want to enter their U23 team in the 2024/25 season, but they cannot go into Group A as Atalanta U23s are there, or Group B as Juventus Next Gen are there. That leaves Group C, which is for teams in the south and the islands.

Therefore, Milan would end up with incredibly long and taxing away games to teams in regions like Puglia, Calabria and Sicily. As an aside, they cannot even enter Serie C until a slot becomes available, but the idea of a team being unable to register and freeing up a slot is very plausible.

The authorities must decide whether to alter the rules stopping U23 teams from operating in the same section of Serie C.
