Tuttosport: De Zerbi no longer an option for Milan – the two remaining candidates

With Stefano Pioli set to depart from AC Milan after this weekend’s fixture against Salernitana, the Rossoneri are still yet to elect their next head coach, but a report has suggested that a key name is no longer in the running.

The debacle about Milan’s next manager is following a similar trend to the one that surrounded the final season of the current manager, perhaps even his entire tenure. Pioli is no stranger to controversy about his position, and previous seasons have proved that. However, this season, the volume of the controversy increased.

Whilst the season started positively, a 5-1 defeat to Inter halted that, and questions began to be asked. Peaks and troughs continued throughout the season, but the questions remained at the forefront of the season.

Perhaps the Rossoneri did not help this, refusing to give answers on the future on occasion. However, it now seems their answer has been given, even if there is no official confirmation of it.

Now, they must look to the future, and their options have been lessening in recent weeks.

As Tuttosport (via Radio Rossonera) reports, that shortlist has gotten shorter this morning. This weekend, Roberto De Zerbi confirmed that he would leave Brighton after their fixture at the weekend, but his next destination will not be Milan.

Instead, the decision is between Paulo Fonseca and Mark van Bommel, who has seen his chances drastically increase in the past week. The report continues, stating that a decision has effectively been made, and they will wait until the season’s conclusion to announce their decision.
