Manchester United to make their move for Caglar Soyuncu

According to The Express, Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur has revealed that Manchester United are set to enter talks with Leicester City for Caglar Soyuncu.

The 25-year-old is one of the best young defenders in the game and is steadily establishing himself as one of the best in his position in the Premier League. Having joined the club in 2018, he has stepped in well since Harry Maguire’s departure and has held his own against the best.

Apart from Maguire, United also have the likes of Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe in their ranks. While there is depth, they may not be of the required quality to mount a title charge. Curiously enough, Konur went on to mention Chelsea in his tweet.

Any move for Soyuncu will however not be easy. Leicester are difficult to negotiate with and usually dig in their heels regarding their top players. United will be familiar with it after being forced to pay a world-record fee to land Maguire in 2019.

A pacy player, Soyuncu will add just that to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s rearguard. His physicality is also an added bonus and will serve us well against the more robust opponents.

Soyuncu and Maguire played together three times for Leicester. Bringing the former to United will give them the chance to rekindle their partnership.

Alongside Jamie Vardy, Soyuncu was one of two Foxes stars to be nominated for the 2019/20 PFA Team of the Year. While injuries did slow him down last time around, he is on his day a top-class defender. Whether he will reunite with Maguire at Old Trafford remains to be seen.
