Turkish side Goztepe has denied reports Roman Abramovich is closing in on a takeover of the team.

Turkish media reports stated that the Russian billionaire had found a new team to invest his money, after the sanctions against him by the UK government.

Abramovich is all but forced to sell Chelsea due to the sanctions, which are related to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Now the deputy chairman of Goztepe has come out and denied speculation linking his side with Abramovich.

Talat Papatya told DHA: "Abramovich did not reach out and talk to anyone to take over the club. No such thing.

"We read in the media that Abramovich took over the club. It doesn't matter. We will make the necessary announcement when the talks on these issues reach a certain maturity."
