On injuries

“There are no injuries to report except Thiago Silva, who will not play tomorrow.”

“All the time. He trains very well, he is a big personality. Even when he didn’t start he deserves to but I will not tell you today if he plays from the first minute.”

On comparing Giroud and Cavani

“Oli is 100 per cent fit, zero body fat, same as Edi. He is a player like Oli who, as a number nine, is always concerned about the team, suffers for the team, always ready to run open spaces and defend for the whole team. Then in the box they are both excellent finishers, they have the composure.

“They are top quality strikers, top quality number nines and for me their fitness and self-discipline are key to their success.”

On facing Man Utd

“Hopefully we win, we know this is a big challenge.

“They are unbeaten away so we know what we are up against. They have individual quality, can hurt you with speed, they are strong team away from home, defend very compact, very good in transitions.

“In general the big games are always the next games. There was a London derby, the game with Madrid then Liverpool and Everton. Big challenges to overcome but this is exactly why we are here but that is why we are looking forward to preparing the team from tomorrow on.”

On taking on Man Utd with PSG

“We played twice against them, we lost both home matches and won both away games, strange results.

“We hope that we can turn this around and win at home but they are unbeaten away in the league and the challenge is big. They like to have space, have counter-attacks.

On making Chelsea hard to beat

“I think it is not a pleasure to play against us but the picture is not finished. We have a long way to go. There is no other way to stay hungry, improve every day and there is lots to improve.

“I can clearly feel the energy of my team, we are a strong group, we have strong competitors and that makes us hard to beat. Football is a team effort.”

On how he works

“It is very hard to talk about myself and what I do, many things I do out of intuition and naturally with how I feel comfortable.

“I feel strongly that there are players who are frustrated, not happy, maybe they have some unfair decisions for me but right now, everybody is trying hard to play and a lot deserve it.

“It is the challenge as the coach to not lose the connection to all the players, especially the guys who don’t play so much. Sometimes it is important to have a day off and we offered them the second day after Newcastle if they won, sometimes it is intuition and sometimes it is planned.”
